Arthur Miller was an American playwright and screenwriter. He was born in New York City on 17 October 1915 and died on 10 February 2005.

Miller's best-known plays include *All My Sons* (1947), *Death of a Salesman* (1949), *The Crucible* (1953) and *A View from the Bridge* (1955). He wrote the screenplay for the 1996 film adaptation of *The Crucible*, directed by Nicholas Hytner, as well as for *The Misfits* (1961). *Death of a Salesman* is widely regarded as one of the major American plays of the twentieth century.
