## Biography

Arthur P. Jacobs (7 March 1922 – 27 June 1973) was an American film producer. He began his career as a press agent and publicist, working at studios including MGM and Warner Bros. before founding his own firm in 1947. Clients included Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Gregory Peck and James Stewart.

In 1963 he formed APJAC Productions. His first feature was *What a Way to Go!* (1964), followed by *Doctor Dolittle* (1967) for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. He is best known for producing the original *Planet of the Apes* (1968) and its four sequels: *Beneath the Planet of the Apes* (1970), *Escape from the Planet of the Apes* (1971), *Conquest of the Planet of the Apes* (1972) and *Battle for the Planet of the Apes* (1973). Other credits include *Goodbye, Mr. Chips* (1969), *Play It Again, Sam* (1972) and *Tom Sawyer* (1973).
