## Biography

Attila Szalay is a cinematographer. Born in Budapest, Hungary, he immigrated to Canada as a child and studied film production and cinematography at Sheridan College in Ontario from 1979 to 1982. He began working as a camera assistant and, between 1990 and 1996, served as an A-camera operator on numerous projects.

Szalay became a director of photography in the mid-1990s. His credits include episodes of the series *Smallville* (2001), for which he received CSC nominations, *The Pillars of the Earth* (2010), *The Bridge* (2013–2014), *Tyrant* (2014), *Get Shorty* (2017–2019) and *FBI: International* (2021–). He has also worked on films such as *The Suite Life Movie* (2011) and second-unit photography on *The Expendables 2* (2012).

Szalay won a Leo Award and a CSC Award for *Iron Road* (2009–2010). He received a Primetime Emmy nomination for *The Pillars of the Earth* and was invited to join the American Society of Cinematographers in 2013. He is also a member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers and the Hungarian Society of Cinematographers, and has directed television episodes.
