## Biography

Audrey Fildes (1922–1997) was a British actress. Her first film credit was as Olwen in *While I Live* (1947). She played Mama, the mother of the protagonist, in the Ealing comedy *Kind Hearts and Coronets* (1949).

On stage she appeared as Sonia in a 1946 production of *Crime and Punishment* directed by Anthony Quayle and starring John Gielgud, and as Diana in Jean Anouilh's *Ring Round the Moon* (1950), directed by Peter Brook and co-starring Paul Scofield. She also appeared in the short film *Designing Women* (1947) and in two 1953 television productions.

Fildes was the granddaughter of painter Luke Fildes and sculptor Goscombe John, and the daughter of fencer Luke Val Fildes. She trained as a gilder and restorer in the early 1970s and later lived in Toronto.
