Ava Gardner was an American actor. Born Ava Lavinia Gardner on 24 December 1922 in Grabtown, North Carolina, she died on 25 January 1990 in London.

She made her breakthrough as Kitty Collins in *The Killers* (1946). Other notable films include *The Barefoot Contessa* (1954), *On the Beach* (1959), *Seven Days in May* (1964), *The Bible: In the Beginning...* (1966) and *Earthquake* (1974). She also appeared in *The Band Wagon* (1953).
