Djola's first major film role was as "Half Dead" Johnson in *Penitentiary* (1979). He appeared in *Mississippi Burning* (1988) as Agent Monk, *The Serpent and the Rainbow* (1988), *A Rage in Harlem* (1991), *The Last Boy Scout* (1991), *The Hurricane* (1999) and other films.
