Barbara Alberti is an Italian writer and screenwriter. Born in Umbertide, Umbria, she moved to Rome at the age of 15 and graduated in philosophy from Sapienza University of Rome. She began publishing novels in the mid-1970s and has written screenplays for numerous films.

Her screenwriting credits include *The Night Porter* (1974), *I'm for the Hippopotamus* (1979), *Frivolous Lola* (1998), *Melissa P.* (2005) and *I Am Love* (2009). She has also worked as a journalist and appeared as a television personality.
