## Biography

Barbara Benedek is an American screenwriter. She began her career as a psychiatric researcher before working as a story editor and writer on television sitcoms including *I'm a Big Girl Now* (1980–1981) and *It's a Living* (1981–1982).

Her first feature screenplay was for *The Big Chill* (1983), co-written with Lawrence Kasdan. The film earned her a Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay along with nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA. She later wrote *Immediate Family* (1989), *Men Don't Leave* (1990) and, with David Rayfiel, the screenplay for *Sabrina* (1995).

Benedek was previously married to talent agent Peter Benedek.
