## Biography

Barbara Bryne was a British-American actress of stage, film and television. Born in London, she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before emigrating to Canada in the early 1960s. She became a frequent performer at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival from 1966 and maintained a long association with the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis.

On Broadway she originated the roles of the Old Lady in Stephen Sondheim's *Sunday in the Park with George* (1984) and Jack's Mother in *Into the Woods* (1987). Her film credits include *Amadeus* (1984) as Frau Weber, *The Bostonians* (1984) as Mrs. Tarrant, and *Two Evil Eyes* (1990). She also appeared in the television adaptation of *Into the Woods* (1991). Bryne died in Minneapolis on 2 May 2023.
