## Biography

Barbara Clegg was a British actress and scriptwriter for television and radio. Born Barbara Diana Clegg in Manchester on 1 March 1926, she studied English at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, before beginning a stage career. She later appeared in television series including Emergency-Ward 10 and The Dream Maker.

Clegg began writing scripts in the early 1960s, contributing episodes to Coronation Street and radio serials such as The Dales and Waggoners' Walk. She also wrote for Crossroads and adapted John Wyndham's The Chrysalids for radio. In 1983 she wrote the Doctor Who serial Enlightenment, becoming the first woman to write for the series. She novelised the story for Target Books. Clegg died on 7 January 2025.
