## Biography

Barbara Hall is an American television writer and producer. She graduated from James Madison University with a BA in English in 1982 and began her career writing for series including *Family Ties* and *Newhart*.

She wrote episodes of *Moonlighting* (1985), *Northern Exposure* (1990) and contributed a teleplay to *ER* (1994). Hall later wrote for *Homeland* (2011) and created the series *Judging Amy* (1999–2005) and *Joan of Arcadia* (2003–2005). She also created *Madam Secretary* (2014–2019) and served as co-executive producer on *Homeland*.

Her sister, Karen Hall, is also a television writer and producer. Hall has written several novels and released music as a singer-songwriter.
