## Biography

Barbara Loden (1932–1980) was an American actress and director. She appeared in films including *Wild River* (1960) and *Splendor in the Grass* (1961), both directed by Elia Kazan, whom she later married. She won a Tony Award for her performance in the 1964 Broadway production of *After the Fall*.

In 1970 Loden wrote, directed and starred in the independent film *Wanda*, which won the International Critics Award at the Venice Film Festival. She directed two short films in the mid-1970s and continued stage work.
