## Biography

Barry Cryer was an English comedian, actor and writer. Born in Leeds, he began performing in variety theatre in the mid-1950s before moving into writing and panel-show work.

He appeared as an actor in *Monty Python's Flying Circus* (1969) and in films including *Bloodbath at the House of Death* (1984). Cryer wrote extensively for performers such as Morecambe and Wise, the Two Ronnies and Kenny Everett, and was a long-serving panellist on the radio series *I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue* from 1972. He received an OBE in 2001.
