## Biography

Barry Kemp is an American television producer, writer and director, and film producer. He wrote for the series *Taxi* (1978–1981), including teleplay credits, and created the sitcoms *Newhart* (1982–1990) and *Coach* (1989–1997).

Kemp graduated from the University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts in 1971. His film production credits include *Romy and Michele's High School Reunion* (1997), *Patch Adams* (1998) and *Catch Me If You Can* (2002). His work received Emmy nominations for writing on *Taxi* and for *Newhart* as Outstanding Comedy Series; he received the Valentine Davies Award from the Writers Guild of America, West in 1999.
