## Biography

Barry Melton is an American musician and attorney. Born on 14 June 1947 in Brooklyn, New York, he co-founded the psychedelic rock band Country Joe and the Fish with Joe McDonald in 1965 and served as its lead guitarist.

Melton performed with the band at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1968 and Woodstock in 1969. He appeared as himself in the concert films *Monterey Pop* (1968) and *Woodstock* (1970), and as a member of Country Joe and the Fish in *More American Graffiti* (1979). He has also acted in other films including *Zachariah* (1971).

Admitted to the State Bar of California in 1982, Melton has maintained a criminal defence practice and served as a public defender in several California counties.
