## Biography

Barry Simner is a British television writer and creator. He wrote for *Midsomer Murders* in 2005 and contributed to series including *The Bill* (1993–1999), *Holby City* (2004–2005) and *Byker Grove*.

He helped create Channel 4’s *Family Pride* (1991–1992), Britain’s first Asian soap opera, and co-devised and served as lead writer on the five series of ITV’s *The Vice* (1999–2003). Simner created the Irish drama *Single-Handed* (2007–2010) for RTÉ and ITV.

His stage plays include *Playing the Man* for Salisbury Playhouse and *The Cabinet of Dr Caligari* for Nottingham Playhouse and the Lyric Hammersmith. He has twice been runner-up in the Arvon National Poetry Competition and works as a creative writing tutor.
