## Biography

Bart Layton is an English filmmaker, director and screenwriter. He was born in 1975 in Hammersmith, London.

Layton began his career in documentary filmmaking. He wrote and directed *The Imposter* (2012), a true-crime film about identity deception, and *American Animals* (2018), a hybrid documentary and narrative feature about a real book heist. He has served as creative director of the British production company RAW.

Layton wrote and directed the 2026 crime thriller *Crime 101*, an adaptation of a Don Winslow novella starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Halle Berry.
