Manowski began acting in the late 1980s. Her early film credits include the role of the young prostitute in Wim Wenders' *Wings of Desire* (1987) and Betty in Jörg Buttgereit's *Nekromantik* (1988). She reprised the latter role in *Nekromantik 2* (1991) and appeared as Sabine in *Manta, Manta* (1991).
