## Biography

Béla Viktor János Bartók (25 March 1881 – 26 September 1945) was a Hungarian composer, pianist and ethnomusicologist. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in Budapest and later taught there.

Bartók is known for his orchestral, chamber and piano works, including *Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta* (1936). His pre-existing compositions have been used in films, notably the third movement of that piece in Stanley Kubrick’s *The Shining* (1980). He is also credited on *Scene of the Crime* (1970).
