## Biography

Ben Roberts was an American screenwriter and producer. Born Benjamin Eisenberg Roberts on 23 March 1916 in New York City, he attended New York University and ran a public-relations firm while contributing comedy material to Broadway musicals. In 1941 he began a long collaboration with writer Ivan Goff on the stage thriller *Portrait in Black*.

Roberts settled in Hollywood in 1949. With Goff he wrote the screenplays for *White Heat* (1949), *Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N.* (1951), *Man of a Thousand Faces* (1957) and *Midnight Lace* (1960). The pair created the television series *Mannix* and *Charlie's Angels*, and Roberts produced episodes of both. He died in Los Angeles on 12 May 1984.
