## Biography

Bernard Evein was a French production designer, art director and costume designer. Born in Saint-Nazaire on 5 January 1929, he trained at the Institut des hautes études cinématographiques (IDHEC), graduating in 1951 in the decoration section, and was a school contemporary of Jacques Demy at the Nantes École des Beaux-Arts.

He worked extensively with Demy on eight films, serving as production designer on *The Umbrellas of Cherbourg* (1964) and *The Young Girls of Rochefort* (1967). He also contributed to numerous French New Wave productions, including set decoration on *The 400 Blows* (1959), art direction on *Cléo from 5 to 7* (1962) and costume design on *Last Year at Marienbad* (1961). He was married to costume designer Jacqueline Moreau.
