## Biography

Bernard Gorcey was an American actor. Born Baruch Ugorsky in Russia in 1886, he immigrated to the United States as a child and began his career in vaudeville before performing on Broadway, where he appeared in productions including *Abie's Irish Rose*.

He made his film debut in the 1928 adaptation of *Abie's Irish Rose* and went on to appear in numerous shorts and features. Gorcey played Mr. Mann in Charlie Chaplin's *The Great Dictator* (1940). From 1946 to 1955 he portrayed ice cream shop owner Louie Dumbrowski in the Bowery Boys series of B-movies, appearing in forty-four films alongside his sons Leo Gorcey and David Gorcey.

Gorcey died in Los Angeles in 1955 following a car accident.
