Born in Newhaven, East Sussex, he began his career in the cutting rooms at Ealing Studios in the mid-1940s, working as an assistant before receiving his first editing credit on *Another Shore* (1948). He went freelance in 1953 and edited numerous British features, including *The Man in the White Suit* (1951) and several comedies.

In the 1970s Gribble moved to Hollywood, where he worked on films such as *Death Wish* (1974), *White Dog* (1982), *Motel Hell* (1980), *The Sentinel* (1977), *Top Secret!* (1984) and *Caddyshack II* (1988). His television credits include the miniseries *The Winds of War* (1983), for which he received a Primetime Emmy nomination, and *Ellis Island* (1984), which earned him ACE Eddie Award nominations.
