## Biography

Bert Glennon was an American cinematographer and film director. Born in Anaconda, Montana, he attended Stanford University and began his film career in the 1910s, initially working in various technical roles before becoming a director of photography around 1916. He served as a pursuit pilot instructor during the First World War.

Glennon worked as cinematographer on over one hundred films, frequently collaborating with directors including John Ford, Cecil B. DeMille, Josef von Sternberg and Raoul Walsh. His credits include *Stagecoach* (1939), *Young Mr. Lincoln* (1939), *Drums Along the Mohawk* (1939), *Rio Grande* (1950) and *House of Wax* (1953). He directed *Syncopation* (1929), the first film released by RKO Radio Pictures, and received Academy Award nominations for cinematography on *Stagecoach* (1939) and *Dive Bomber* (1941).

His son, James Glennon, was also a cinematographer.
