## Biography

Biff McGuire (born William Joseph McGuire Jr.) was an American actor. Born on 25 October 1926 in New Haven, Connecticut, he attended the University of Massachusetts before serving in the US Army during the Second World War. He made his Broadway debut in *Bright Boy* (1944) and appeared in the original production of *South Pacific* (1949).

McGuire's film roles included Fred Gage in *The Phenix City Story* (1955) and Captain McClain in *Serpico* (1973). He received Tony Award nominations for featured roles in *The Young Man From Atlanta* (1997) and *Morning's at Seven* (2002). He maintained a long association with the Seattle Repertory Theatre and appeared in numerous television series, including episodes of *Alfred Hitchcock Presents*, *ER* and *Frasier*.

In 1960 he married the English actress Jeannie Carson, with whom he frequently performed on stage. McGuire died on 9 March 2021.
