## Biography

Bill Barich (born 1943) is an American writer. He grew up on Long Island, graduated from Colgate University in 1965, and served in the US Peace Corps in eastern Nigeria. He later settled in northern California and became a staff writer at The New Yorker, contributing travel pieces, reportage and short fiction.

Barich has published several books, including the racetrack memoir *Laughing in the Hills* (1980) and the novel *Carson Valley* (1997). He wrote a teleplay for the television series *NYPD Blue* (1993) and served as lead writer on the HBO series *Luck* (2012), created by David Milch.

He has contributed to magazines including *Esquire*, *Sports Illustrated* and *Narrative*, and now lives in Dublin, Ireland.
