Bill Brochtrup is an American actor. Born on 7 March 1963 in Inglewood, California, he was raised in Tacoma, Washington, and graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1985.

He is known for playing John Irvin, a principal administrative assistant, on the television series *NYPD Blue* (1995–2005), appearing in 156 episodes. He was a series regular on three Steven Bochco productions: *Public Morals* (1996), *Total Security* (1997) and *NYPD Blue*. Other television credits include *Dexter* (2006), *Shameless* (2011), *Without a Trace* (2005) and voice work on *The Wild Thornberrys* (2001). Film roles include *Ravenous* (1999), *Life as We Know It* (2010) and *He's Just Not That Into You* (2009). Brochtrup has an extensive stage career, with credits at South Coast Repertory, the Antaeus Company and Off-Broadway.
