## Biography

Bill Purple is an American television and film director, also credited as William Purple. He began his career as an assistant director on feature films such as *The Patriot* (2000), *Mr. & Mrs. Smith* (2005) and *Tropic Thunder* (2008). He later worked as a first assistant director at Shondaland on *Off the Map*, where he directed second-unit sequences.

Purple directed his first network episode on *Private Practice*. He went on to direct three episodes of *New Girl* (2014–2015), as well as episodes of *Fresh Off the Boat*, *Speechless* (14 episodes) and other series. His feature directorial debut was *The Book of Love* (2016), which he also wrote and executive produced. He has directed multiple episodes of *Cruel Summer* and served as directing producer on *Fire Country*.
