## Biography

Bill Richmond was an American comedy writer, producer, musician and actor. Born William Earle Richmond on 19 December 1921 in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, he grew up in Rockford, Illinois. After serving as a Marine Corps fighter pilot in the Second World War, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a jazz drummer, working with artists including Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle.

Richmond collaborated with Jerry Lewis on screenplays for several films, including *The Ladies Man* (1961), *The Errand Boy* (1961), *The Nutty Professor* (1963), *The Patsy* (1964) and *The Family Jewels* (1965). He also appeared in cameo roles in some of Lewis's films. He later wrote for television series including *I Dream of Jeannie*, *All in the Family* (1971) and *Three's Company* (1977).

Richmond's most prominent television work was on *The Carol Burnett Show*, for which he shared three Primetime Emmy Awards for outstanding writing in a comedy-variety or music series (1974, 1975 and 1978). He died on 4 June 2016 in Calabasas, California.
