He began his career on the stage in Australia, performing in light opera in Sydney for eight years before sailing to America in 1912 with the Pollard’s Lilliputian Opera Company. Bevan entered films with the Sigmund Lubin studio in 1916. He later became a supporting actor and then a star in Mack Sennett comedies from the early 1920s. In the sound era he took numerous small and uncredited roles, including in *Rebecca* (1940), *Bringing Up Baby* (1938), *Suspicion* (1941) as Ticket Taker, *Mr. Deeds Goes to Town* (1936), *The Picture of Dorian Gray* (1945), *Mrs. Miniver* (1942) and *Dracula's Daughter* (1936).
