## Biography

Bismillah Khan (1916–2006) was an Indian classical musician and occasional actor, best known as a virtuoso shehnai player. Born in Dumraon, he appeared on screen as a musician in Satyajit Ray’s *The Music Room* (1958).

Khan also contributed to film soundtracks, including playing the shehnai in *Goonj Uthi Shehnai* (1959) and *Sanadhi Appanna* (1977). He received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award.
