Bo Diddley, born Ellas Bates (also credited as Elias Otha Bates and Ellas McDaniel), was an American musician and actor. He appeared in a number of films and television programmes, including as the pawnbroker in *Trading Places* (1983).

Other screen credits include *Blues Brothers 2000* (1998), in which he performed as a member of the Louisiana Gator Boys, *Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives!* (1989) as a legendary guitarist, and a guest role as himself in the series *According to Jim* (2001). He died in 2008.
