## Biography

Bo Holten is a Danish composer and conductor. Born on 22 October 1948 in Rudkøbing, he studied musicology at the University of Copenhagen and bassoon at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

He composed the score for Lars von Trier's *The Element of Crime* (1984), on which he also served as conductor. Other film scores include *Zappa* (1983) and *Twist and Shout* (1984), both directed by Bille August. Holten founded the vocal ensemble Ars Nova in 1979 and later established Musica Ficta; he has held principal conductor positions with ensembles including the Flemish Radio Choir.

As a composer he has written more than 100 works, including operas, symphonies and concertos.
