## Biography

Bob Hastings (born Robert Francis Hastings) was an American actor who worked in radio, film and television, and provided voices for animation. He began his career as a child performer on radio programmes including *Coast to Coast on a Bus* and later voiced the title character in the radio series *Archie Andrews*.

After serving as a navigator on B-29s in the United States Army Air Corps during the Second World War, Hastings moved into television in the late 1940s. He appeared in early science-fiction series and had recurring roles on *The Phil Silvers Show* and as Lieutenant Elroy Carpenter on *McHale's Navy* (1962–1966).

Hastings voiced Commissioner James Gordon in *Batman: The Animated Series* (1992–1994) and the feature *Batman: Mask of the Phantasm* (1993), as well as later entries in the DC Animated Universe. He also appeared in films including *The Poseidon Adventure* (1972) and guest-starred in series such as *The Twilight Zone*, *I Dream of Jeannie* and *All in the Family*.
