## Biography

Borden Chase was an American writer of screenplays, novels and short stories. Born Frank Fowler on 11 January 1900 in Brooklyn, New York, he left school at fourteen and worked in a variety of jobs before turning to writing in the 1930s.

Chase wrote the story and co-wrote the screenplay for *Red River* (1948), for which he received an Academy Award nomination. His other screen credits include *Winchester '73* (1950), *Bend of the River* (1952), *Vera Cruz* (1954), *The Far Country* (1954) and *The Fighting Seabees* (1944). He also wrote pilots for the television series *Daniel Boone* and *Laredo*.
