## Biography

Brandon deWilde was an American actor. Born into a theatrical family in Brooklyn, New York, he made his Broadway debut at the age of seven in *The Member of the Wedding* and became the youngest recipient of a Donaldson Award for the performance.

He reprised the role in the 1952 film adaptation of *The Member of the Wedding*, for which he received a Golden Globe Award. In 1953 he played Joey Starrett in *Shane*, earning a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He starred in the ABC television series *Jamie* (1953–54) and later appeared in films including *Hud* (1963) as Lon 'Lonnie' Bannon and *In Harm's Way* (1965).

DeWilde continued to work in theatre, film and television until his death in a road accident in Colorado on 6 July 1972, aged 30.
