## Biography

Brandon Hurst (30 November 1866 – 15 July 1947) was an English stage and film actor. Born in London, he studied philology and began performing in theatre in the 1880s. He appeared in Broadway productions from 1900 and made his film debut in *Via Wireless* (1915).

Hurst became known in the 1920s for roles as antagonists in silent films, including Sir George Carewe in *Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde* (1920), Jehan Frollo in *The Hunchback of Notre Dame* (1923), Alexei Karenin in *Love* (1927), and Barkilphedro in *The Man Who Laughs* (1928). He played Uncle George in *7th Heaven* (1927). In sound films his roles were often smaller, though he continued working until shortly before his death in Hollywood.
