## Biography

Brian Ackland-Snow (31 March 1940 – 30 March 2013) was an English production designer and art director. Born in London, he began working in film in the early 1960s as a draughtsman and assistant art director before progressing to art direction and production design roles.

He is known for his work on films including *Death on the Nile* (1978), *The Dark Crystal* (1982), *A Room with a View* (1985), *Maurice* (1987) and *Without a Clue* (1988). He shared an Academy Award for Best Art Direction for *A Room with a View* and won an Emmy Award for art direction on the miniseries *Scarlett* (1995). His later credits include *Haunted* (1995) and *Animal Farm* (1999).

His son, Andrew Ackland-Snow, also worked as an art director in films.
