## Biography

Brian Dooley is an English television writer, born on 16 April 1971 in Crosby, Merseyside. He created and wrote the BBC sitcom *The Smoking Room* (2004–2005), which originated on BBC Three before moving to BBC Two, and in which he also appeared as Ben from the post room. For the series he received the BAFTA Television Craft Award for New Writer in 2005.

Dooley was educated at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge. His other writing credits include episodes of *Being Human* (2009–2011) and its spin-off *Becoming Human* (2011), as well as work on *Monkey Dust*, *The Sketch Show* and the 2023 series *The Family Pile*, which he created. He has also written plays for BBC Radio 4 and contributed a short story to a *Doctor Who* anthology.
