## Biography

Brian Hayles was an English television and film writer. He wrote for the BBC series *Z-Cars* (1962) and contributed six stories to *Doctor Who* (1963) between 1966 and 1974, creating the Celestial Toymaker, the Ice Warriors and the planet Peladon.

His other television work included episodes of *Doomwatch*, *Out of the Unknown* and *The Regiment*, as well as creating the football soap *United!*. Hayles wrote the screenplays for the feature films *Nothing But the Night* (1972) and *Warlords of Atlantis* (1978). He also wrote for radio, including *The Archers*, and published several novels and novelisations.
