## Biography

Bridget Boland (13 March 1913 – 19 January 1988) was a British screenwriter, playwright and novelist.

Born in London to Irish parents, she was educated at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Roehampton, and at Oxford University, where she read philosophy, politics and economics, graduating in 1935. She began writing for film in 1937 and served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service from 1941 to 1946, producing plays for the troops.

Her screenplays include *Gaslight* (1940), *War and Peace* (1956) and *Anne of the Thousand Days* (1969). She also wrote stage plays such as *Cockpit* (1948), later filmed as *The Lost People* (1949), and several novels.
