## Biography

Bridget O'Connor was an English playwright and screenwriter. She was born on 18 January 1961 in Harrow, north-west London, and died on 22 September 2010.

O'Connor studied English and creative writing at Lancaster University. She began her career writing short stories and plays for radio and theatre, including the prizewinning stage play *The Flags* (2001). She later collaborated with her husband, the writer Peter Straughan, on several screenplays.

Their joint credits include *Sixty Six* (2006) and *Mrs Ratcliffe's Revolution* (2007). They adapted John le Carré's novel for the 2011 film *Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy*, for which they won the BAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay; the film was nominated for the Academy Award in the same category and was dedicated to O'Connor.
