## Biography

Bronisław Kaper was a Polish composer who scored films and musical theatre in Germany, France and the United States. Born in Warsaw in 1902, he studied piano and composition at the Chopin Music School before moving to Berlin, where he wrote songs for cabaret and film. He later worked in Paris before emigrating to Hollywood in 1935 under contract to MGM.

Kaper received an Academy Award for his score for the musical *Lili* (1953). His other film credits include *Gaslight* (1944), *Them!* (1954), *Somebody Up There Likes Me* (1956), *Auntie Mame* (1958) and *Mutiny on the Bounty* (1962). He is also known for the jazz standards "On Green Dolphin Street" and "Invitation", which originated as title music for MGM films.
