Kerner worked as executive in charge of production on the film *The Terminator* (1984), in which he also appeared as the Desk Sergeant. He later produced episodes of the television series *A Different World* (1987) and the mini-series *World War II: When Lions Roared* (1994). He has held executive in charge of production roles on series including *The Parkers* and *Moesha*.

Kerner received a Primetime Emmy nomination for his work in production.
