## Biography

Buddy Baer (1915–1986) was an American actor and former professional boxer. Born Jacob Henry Baer in Denver, Colorado, he was the younger brother of heavyweight champion Max Baer and uncle of actor Max Baer Jr. Standing over six feet six inches tall, he frequently played giants and heavies in films and on television.

After a boxing career in the 1930s and 1940s that included two world-title bouts against Joe Louis, Baer moved into acting. His film roles include *Africa Screams* (1949), *Quo Vadis* (1951) as Ursus, *The Big Sky* (1952) and *Jack and the Beanstalk* (1952). He also appeared in guest roles on series such as *Gunsmoke*, *Rawhide*, *Have Gun – Will Travel* and *Adventures of Superman*.
