## Biography

Bülent Ersoy, also known as Bülent Erkoç, is a Turkish singer and actress born on 9 June 1952 in Istanbul. She began her career as a male singer in Turkish classical music and became an actor in the 1970s, appearing in films including *Sıralardaki Heyecan* (1976) and *Ölmeyen Şarkı* (1977).

Ersoy underwent gender reassignment surgery in 1981 and returned to performing after a ban on public appearances was lifted in 1988. She has released more than thirty albums and contributed to the soundtrack of *Head-On* (2004) with the song 'Ah le yar'. She has also appeared in later television and film roles.
