## Biography

Burt Kennedy (born Burton Raphael Kennedy, 3 September 1922 – 15 February 2001) was an American screenwriter and director. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan, and is known primarily for his work on Western films.

Kennedy wrote the screenplays for *Ride Lonesome* (1959), *The Tall T* (1957), *Seven Men from Now* (1956) and *Comanche Station* (1960). He began his screenwriting career with Batjac Productions and later directed films including *The Canadians* (1961), *Return of the Seven* (1966), *The War Wagon* (1967), *Support Your Local Sheriff!* (1969), *The Train Robbers* (1973) and *Hannie Caulder* (1971).

He also directed episodes of television series such as *Magnum, P.I.* (1980) and wrote the screenplay for *White Hunter, Black Heart* (1990).
