## Biography

Byron Foulger was an American character actor. Born in Ogden, Utah, he graduated from the University of Utah and began performing in community theatre and stock companies. He made his Broadway debut in 1920 in a production of Medea and later worked at the Pasadena Playhouse as an actor and director before moving into film in the 1930s.

Foulger appeared in hundreds of stage, film and television productions over a career spanning five decades. He was part of director Preston Sturges' informal stock company, appearing in five of his films including The Great McGinty (1940), Sullivan's Travels (1941), The Palm Beach Story (1942), The Miracle of Morgan's Creek (1943) and The Great Moment (1944). Other film credits include Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), The Lost Weekend (1945) and The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946).

From the 1950s he made more than 90 television appearances, including roles in The Twilight Zone, Bonanza, The Addams Family and Petticoat Junction. He was married to actress Dorothy Adams; their daughter is actress Rachel Ames. Foulger died in Los Angeles in 1970.
