## Biography

Byron Houck was an American cinematographer and former professional baseball pitcher. After a career in Major League Baseball with teams including the Philadelphia Athletics and St. Louis Browns, he entered the film industry in the 1920s through a connection with Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle.

Houck worked primarily on Buster Keaton's silent comedies. He received photography credits, alongside Elgin Lessley, on *Sherlock Jr.* (1924), *The Navigator* (1924) and *Seven Chances* (1925). He also served as an uncredited camera operator and still photographer on *The General* (1926), and photographed several shorts directed by Arbuckle.

Houck was born Byron Simon Houck in Prosper, Minnesota, and died in Santa Cruz, California, in 1969.
