## Biography

Byron Keith (born Cletus Leo Schwitters) was an American actor. He also worked on radio under the name Clete Lee. He made his film debut in the 1946 Orson Welles thriller *The Stranger*, playing Dr. Jeffrey Lawrence.

Keith appeared mainly in supporting roles in films and on television. He had a recurring part as police lieutenant Roy Gilmore in the series *77 Sunset Strip* (1958–1963) and played Mayor Linseed in *Batman* (1966–1968). Other credits include episodes of *Bewitched*, *Mission: Impossible* and *Adam-12*.

He was born on 17 November 1917 in El Paso, Illinois, and died on 19 January 1996 in Los Angeles, California.
